Safeguarding policy

Lead Welfare Officer – Justine Tanner

Hello, I am Horsham Blue Stars Lead Welfare Officer, I am here to deal with any safeguarding matters that arise and general issues regarding welfare for any member of the club.

To take on this role I have completed the relevant courses with England Athletics. In my professional career of which 22 years have been in various public sector roles, I have been involved in Safeguarding for adults and children. I am also qualified in Mental Health First Aid.

I am at training on Monday and Wednesday nights as I coach at the 7pm training session.

What I would like to say to any athlete, parent or carer is that if an athlete’s current circumstances could affect their training or ability to compete, please let us know, just as you would let their school know. You can talk to me or the athlete’s coach.  If we are not aware we cannot support our athletes and make the appropriate adjustments.

Sport can really help a person when there are other things going on, and we are here to support this.

We are part of Active Sussex which gives us links into other organisations, help and advice. We are also supported by England Athletics.

If you have any worries or concerns, please contact me on email [email protected] or speak to me at training.
