  1. The final round of the Young Athletes League match for the Under 13 and Under 15 age groups took place at Thames Valley Athletic Centre, Eton and the Blue Star team finished in 4th place. This result leave the team in 4th place overall in the league.

    Kyla Ball in the under 13 Girls events continued her fine run of form by winning the High Jump with a personal best leap of 1.45m and then went on to jump 4.20m in the Long Jump to take second place.  Anniya Pennington-Bick won the Javelin with a throw of 20.02m. The 75m saw Ellen Pratt and Emma Harrison team up and both secured second place finishes running 10.94s and 11.30s respectively, with Pratt throwing 6.80m to finish second in the Shot event. The 4x100m relay team of Phoebe Penston, Emma Harrison, Kyla Ball and Ellen Pratt ran well to take second place in 58.28s.

    Alina Hillicks had a good day in the Under 15 Girls Discus event winning with a throw of 29.18m, a personal best by almost 4m., she then went on to take 3rd place in the Shot with 7.78m, with Evie Hodgen finishing third in the B string with 6.25m. There were good runs in the Under 15 Girls 75m Hurdles event, with Sophie Hogton finishing third in 12.32s and Alexia Johnson taking second place in the B race in 13.35s. The Javelin event saw more valuable points scored with Katiya Pennington-Bick throwing 22.00m for 3rd place in the A event and Lilia Simpson taking second place in the B string with 19.76m.

    In the Under 13 Boys events there was a win for Theo Ramage in the Shot with a personal best throw of 8.92m. Ramage then cleared 1.35m for a second place in the High jump and had another second place in the B string Javelin with a throw of 21.47m, where Harry Long threw 26.02m for third place in the A event. In the 100m Joe Cresswell finished third in the A race in 14.03s. In the Under 15 Boys events Charlie Ferris ran a personal best 4m48.74s to take 4th place in the 1500m while Vlad Tikhomirov finished 3rd in the hammer with a throw of 15.58m and 4th place in the Shot with 7.89m, where Ed Crossman took third place in the B string with a throw of 7.78m.

  2. The latest Southern Athletic League saw the Blue Star team travel the short distance to Guildford, where they faced a tough match competing against Hercules Wimbledon and Cambridge Harriers who were lying 1st and 2nd in the league table. Putting up an excellent performance the team ended up 2nd equal with Cambridge Harriers, scoring 224 points, behind winners Hercules Wimbledon, who scored a massive 323 points, but ahead of 4th placed Thanet (98 points).

    There was an excellent run in the Men’s 800m, where Ash Williams, ran a good tactical race to come a winner in 2m04.5s. In the same race Sam Richards finished in 2nd place in the B string in a time of 2m18.2s. Simon Brown although still recovering from an injury competed in both the Shot and the Discus. Having thrown 11.55m in the Shot, where he finished 2nd, he then won the Discus with an impressive throw of 36.74m. Dan Dearden cleared 3.60m to win the Pole Vault, while there was a good run from Bradley Burke in the 2000m Steeplechase, where he led all the way to come home in 6m35.3s, where team mate Josh Barnett also ran well to win the B race in 7m09.0s.

     

    The Long and Triple Jumps produced good points, with Rocky Betts jumping 5.69m in the Long Jump to claim second place in the A string and Tom Gilsenan-Best winning the B string with 5.62m. The Triple Jump saw Betts and Matt O’Dwyer team up, with Betts jumping11.06m in the A event for 3rd place and O’Dwyer leaping 11.05m to win the B event, both achieving personal bests. Luke Burgess and Ryan Bowyer claimed second places in the 5000m running 16m22.8s and 19m16.5s respectively, whilst another second place was secured by Jack Milnthorpe in the High Jump, where he was edged out of first place on countback, both athletes clearing 1.80m.

    In the Women’s events there was a double victory for Renee Bassin. Firstly she leapt 4.54m to win the Long Jump and then saw a clearance of 1.45m good enough to win the High Jump. Caroline Wirth won the Discus with a throw of 27.75m, with Sophie Sheldon taking second place in the B event (15.05m). Sheldon had earlier cleared 2.20m in the Pole Vault for another second placing. Jasmine Belshaw ran well in the 100m, running 13.8s for second place in the A race and then threw 23.33m to secure second place in the Javelin. Belshaw together with Bassin, Sheldon and Melanie Bradley teamed up in the 4 x 100m relay and came home easy winners in 55.0s. This result leaves the team in 7th position in the 17 Club league.

     

  3. The Under 13 team finished second again at K2 Crawley behind the host Club. Scoring 181 points behind Crawley’s 220 points, but ahead of Haywards Heath (132 points), Worthing (119 points), East Grinstead (100 points) and Chichester (30 points).

    Madeleine Way ran well to win the 70m Hurdles in 11.9s, with Phoebe Penston winning the B race in 12.5s.These two teamed up in the 150m in which Way ran out an easy winner in the A race (21.6s), with Penston running 22.9s for second place in the B race. Kyla Ball won the High Jump with a clearance of 1.35m and then went on to jump 3.69m to take 3rd place in the Long Jump, with Lizzy Crossman jumping 3.51m for second place in the B event. Two second places were achieved in the 1000m with Honey Thomson running 3.m29.3s in the A race and Emma Harrison 3m46.0s in the B race.  The 75m saw Ellen Pratt run 11.1s for second place in the A race and Emma Harrison also finish second in the B race (11.5s). Maddie Wilders took second place in the Discus with a throw of 12.92m with Megan Hulcoop winning the B event with a throw of 11.22m.

    Theo Ramage won the Boys High Jump with a leap of 1.40m, with Tom Easdale taking second place in the B event (1.20m). Ramage then went on to throw 8.10m in the Shot for a second place. Seth Bond and Harry Long both took second places in the Long Jump, jumping 4.16m and 3.59m respectively. Long took another second place in the Javelin with a throw of 23.51m, and Bond took second place in the 75m Hurdles with a run of 14.2s. The 75m races saw Joe Cresswell win the B race in 11.2s, with William Gosedn running 11.5s for third place in the A race.

    The relays as usual finished the programme, with the Girls team of Penston, Way, Pratt and Harrison finishing second in 57.9s and the Boys team of Long, Cresswell, Gosden and Bond running 59.7s for fourth place. This result leaves the Club comfortably in 2nd place in the league.
