The first of this year’s Youth Development League fixtures for the under 13 and Under 15 age groups saw the Blue Star team travel to a very windy Walton. The team finished in fifth position of the six competing clubs, scoring 387 points, just a half a point behind the 4th placed team. Team Dorset won the match with 598 points.
Victories were hard to come by in a tough match, but Antoine Stehle cleared an impressive 1.55m to win the Under 15 Boys High Jump, and then went on to win the B string Shot, with a throw of 6.18m, where club mate Vlad Tikhomirov threw 6.53m to take third place in the A string. In the Under 15 Girls 75m Hurdles, Sophie Hogton finished 3rd in the A race, running 12.9s, with Alexia Johnson also taking 3rd place in the B race, running 13.8s. The Under 15 Girls Javelin saw Katiya Penningtojn-Bick throw 21.02m in the A string for third place and Hayley Emerson throw. 19.92m to take 2nd place in the B event. Sophie Morris ran well in the 800m where she finished third in 2m37.0s, and there was another third place secured by Sophie Hogton in the 75m Hurdles, running 12.9s, with Alexia Johnson also taking third place in the B string in 13.8s.
Madeleine Way performed well in the Under 13 Girls events, running a massive personal best 11.7s in the 70m Hurdles event, and then took second place in the 150m, running 20.3s, to record another personal best. Way then went on to take third place in the Long Jump with a leap of 3.94m, where Kyla Ball took a third place in the B string (3.37m). Phoebe Penston also ran a personal best in winning the B race of the 70m Hurdles in 12.8s. The under 13 Girls High Jump saw Kyla Ball clear 1.33m to secure second place in the A event, with Lila Cox taking 3rd place in the string with 1.10m. Cox had earlier finished third in the B race of the 75m (11.5s). In the Shot event Ellen Pratt threw 5.88m to take second place in the A string and there was a third place for Phoebe Penston in the B string with a throw of 5.43m. The Under 13 Girls 4x100m Relay team of Emma Harrison, Kyla Ball, Phoebe Penston and Madeleine Way ran 60.1s to take second spot.
There was a double win in the Under 13 boys Javelin, with Harry Long winning the A event with a throw of 21.24m, and team mate Theo Ramage winning the B string with21.20m. Ramage had a good day, having earlier won the High Jump with a clearance of 1.33m, with Tom Easdale taking second place in the B string. Ramage then won the Shot event with an impressive throw of 8.03m. Seth Bond ran well in the Under 13 Boys 75m Hurdles, where he finished a close second, running 14.7s.
