The Blue Stars travelled to Poole for the latest UK Youth development league meeting for the Under 13 and Under 15 age groups, with the team finishing fourth. The conditions were far from ideal with a strong wind blowing across the track and occasional rain showers. Despite the conditions there were some excellent performances with Seb Wallace and Hari Brogan winning A and B strings in the Under 15 Boys High Jump, with Wallace clearing 1.73m and Brogan setting a new personal best when clearing 1.70m. Wallace also ran well to dominate the 80m Hurdles where he won the in a new personal best time of 11.4s, with team mate Callum Palmer taking runner up spot in the B race in 14.6s. Wallace completed his hat trick of wins by taking the Long Jump with a leap of 5.77m, with Matt O’Dwyer jumping 5.00m to win the B event. O’Dwyer then went on to be a convincing winner in the Shot where he threw 12.11m, with Ed Crossman throwing 7.20m for second place in the B string. The 1500m saw a good run from Matty Smith where he took second place in 4m33.8s. The Discus produced more good points with second places gained by Jake Hogton in the A string (23.87m) and Callum Palmer in the B string (19.46m).
The Under 15 Girls Discus saw Alina Hillicks take second place in the A string with a throw of 19.36m, and Macy Lawes also finish second in the B event with a throw of 13.90m. Lawes went on to win the B string in the Shot with a throw of 8.02m, with team mate Ruby Walker throwing 8.88m for second place in the A event, and there was a good performance in the High Jump with Emily Hutchinson clearing 1.50m to take second place, beaten only on count back.
Tristan Bradley finished second in the Under 13 Boys 800m, running 2m32.1s and then jumped 3.86m to take third place in the Long Jump., whilst the Javelin saw another third place for Nicholas Land with a throw of 24.12m. In the Under 13 Girls events Madeleine Way finished third in the 75m (10.8s), the 150m (21.4s) and the Long Jump (4.02m).
The 4 x100m relays saw a fine win for the Under 15 Boys team of Callum Palmer, Seb Wallace, Ed Crossman and Matt O’Dwyer running 50.1s, whilst there were third place finishes for the Under 15 Girls and Under 13 Girls teams, running 54.8s and 58.3s respectively. This result leaves the Club in third place overall in the league with one match remaining.
