Croydon was the venue for the last of this season’s Youth Development League fixtures for the Under 17 & Under 20 age groups and the Blue Star team finished in a creditable second place in the match to confirm their fourth overall league position. The team scored 446 points, behind winners Croydon(678pts), but ahead of Team Sussex, a composite team of 4 Sussex Clubs, (423pts), Cambridge Harriers (401pts), Walton (293pts), Dartford (261pts) and Holland, Dorking & Mole Valley (146pts).
In the Under 17 Women’s events, Ella Sharpe won the Triple Jump with a leap of 10.06m , with Maddy Strickland winning the B event with 9.57m. These two had earlier teamed up in the 300m, where they both third place, Sharpe running 44.6s and Strickland 45.2s. Alex Richer doubled up in the 1500m and 3000m races, winning the former in a personal best 5m03.8s and taking second place in the latter running another personal best of 10m55.2s.. The Under 20 Women’s events saw Chloe Billingham, back from University, win the pole Vault with a clearance of 3.20m and then take second place in the Javelin (22.02m) and third places in the Triple Jump (9.33m), Hammer (26.20m) and Discus (19.96m). Lucy Milnthorpe won the High Jump, clearing 1.50m, after earlier winning the B string Discus (16.38m) and Javelin (21.62m) events. Maddie Williams won the B string Pole Vault with 1.90m and then took a second place in 400m (67.1s).
Alex Wadley notched up two wins in the Under 17 Men’s events, winning the 400m in a close race in 52.4s and then went on to take the Triple Jump with 12.30m. The Shot Putt saw the return of Leo Walker after a foot operation, and although restricted to a standing throw, still managed to take third place with a putt of 11.01m, with team mate Jordan Levey throwing 8.42m to take second place in the B string. There were several good performances in the Under 20 Men’s events, with Calum Neil taking second place in the Pole Vault with a clearance of 3.80m and Joe West winning the B string with 3.50m. Neil then took second place in the Discus with a throw of 22.67m, with Jack Milnthorpe throwing 17.76m to win the B event. Milnthorpe had earlier won the Hammer with a throw of 18.46m. Ashley Gorton took second places in the 400m (51.2s) and the 800m (2m06.9s), where Tom Mackman won the B race in 2m09.0s. Luke Triccas ran 4m28.6s to win the 1500m B string, with Tom Mackman running 4m28.0s for third place in the A race. Elliott Bayley threw 48.00m for second place in the Javelin and then took another second place in the Shot event with a throw of 9.09m. Connor Dearden and Joe West teamed up in the 2000m Steeplechase event and both came away with maximum points.
