K2, Crawley was the venue for the first of this season’s Sussex Under 13 League, with the Blue Star team putting up a good performance to finish in second place, scoring 192 points, behind winners Crawley (215pts), but ahead of Haywards Heath (149pts), East Grinstead (108pts), Worthing (101pts) and Chichester (4pts).
Kyla Ball secured two wins, clearing a personal best 1.38m to win the High Jump, and then winning the Long Jump with a leap of 4.14m, to set another personal best. Madeleine Way also took two victories, firstly running 12.0s to win the 70m Hurdles, where Phoebe Penston won the B string running a personal best 12.3s. Way then ran an impressive race in the 150m where she cruised to victory in 21.0s. The Javelin saw Anni Pennington-Bick throw 17.93m to secure victory in the A event, with Maddie Wilders throwing 11.67m to win the B string. Ellen Pratt took second place in the A string Shot, with a throw of 5.54m, while team mate Megan Hulcoop won the B string throwing the same distance. Emma Harrison and Alexandra Pinder both finished second in their respective races in the 600m, running 1m59.9s and 2m08.4s respectively, while there was another second place finish in the 1000m, where Honey Thomson ran 3m43.9s.
In the Boys events, Seth Bond ran well to win the 75m Hurdles, running 14.5s, with Louis Byrne taking second place in the B race (16.5s). Bond then went on to take third place in the Long Jump, with a leap of 3.99m, with Harry Long jumping 3.73m for second place in the B event. The HIgh Jump saw Theo Ramage and Tom Easdale both secure second place, jumping 1.30m and 1.20m respectively. Ramage teamed up with Lauchlan Slaughter in the Shot Putt, both finishing second, with performances of 8.14m and 5.85m. This was a promising start to the season, with the next match, also at Crawley on 13th June
