The Senior Blue Star team travelled to Swindon for its final match in this year’s Southern Athletic League match and in a close fought match were edged into third place by the host club, scoring 163 points to the Swindon’s 168 points, the winners were Team Dorset (202 points), with Chichester fourth (59 points). Unfortunately holidays had a big impact on the team but there were some excellent performances.
Luke Johnson was very impressive with a convincing win in the Javelin where his throw of 55.94m was a season’s best. Simon Brown won the B string with 40.82m. Brown then went on to win the Shot Putt with a throw of 11.14m and then won his main event, the Discus, with a throw of 41.59m. There was a double win in the Pole Vault with Gareth Lewis taking the A string with a clearance of 3.20m and Jack Milnthorpe winning the B string with 2.40m. The 800m saw Tom Mackman run 2m11.4s to win the A race, with Gareth Lewis winning the B race (2m34.2s). Lewis had earlier won the 400m Hurdles in 67.6s and then took the 110m Hurdles race in 19.2s. In the 100m races James Mackman ran 11.9s for second place in the A race with James Hedges also taking second place in the B race (12.7s), these two teamed up in the 200m and saw Mackman running 24.3s for second place in the A race, with Hedges winning the B string in 24.9s. The Mens 4x100m relay team of Adam West, James Hedges, Rocky Betts and James Mackman won a close race running 46.7s, whilst the 4x400m team of Adam West, Luke Johnson, James Mackman and Tom Mackman finished in second place
In the Women’s events Chloe Billingham cleared 3.20m to win the Pole Vault, whilst there was a win for Anne Billingham in the 3000m (14m17.4s), and in the Discus Caroline Wirth threw 25.52m for second place in the A string with Chloe Billingham winning the B string with a throw of 21.71m. Chloe and Lucy Milnthorpe doubled up in the Javelin, both taking second place, Chloe throwing 22.71m and Lucy 18.96m. These two had also doubled up in the shot putt placing 2nd and 3rd respectively.
This result means the Club finished in a creditable 8th place in the League.
