At the recent Sussex Track & Field Championship held at K2, Crawley Blue Star athletes accumulated an impressive haul of medals, winning 9 Gold, 11 Silver and 16 Bronze.  The Under 15 Girls Long Jump saw Cleo Tomlinson jump a personal best 5.30m to win the Gold medal and equal the Championship best, she then went on to take a bronze medal in the High Jump with a clearance of 1.50m. Elsewhere in this age group Izzy Hayes ran an impressive race in the 1500m to win in an excellent 4m50.40s, a massive personal best. Ruby Jerges picked up two individual medals, running 12.34s in the Final of the 75m Hurdles to take a bronze medal and then throwing 17.49m to win silver in the Hammer. There were bronze medals for Vivienne Rae, who cleared 2.15m in the Pole Vault, Peanut Meekings with a throw of 34.92m in the Javelin and Ruby Walker in the Shot Put with 8.11m. The 4 x100m Relay team of Jasmine Belshaw, Ruby Jerges, Ruby Walker and Cleo Tomlinson also took bronze medals running 52.66s.

In the Under 15 Boys 80m Hurdles Seb Wallace took gold with a good run of 12.32s, and then in the Long Jump he went on to leap 5.73m, a personal best, to take silver , and took a bronze in the high Jump with a clearance of 1.55m. Another bronze came in the Shot where Matt O’Dwyer threw 8.81m. The 4x100m team of Matt O’Dwyer, Seb Wallace, Callum Palmer and Adam West ran 50.73s to take the bronze medals.

Alex Wadley picked up 4 medals in the Under 17 Men age group, winning silver medals in the 200m, where he ran 22.96s, and the Triple Jump with a leap of 12.43m, and bronze medals in the 100m (11.61s) and the 400m (52.83s). The 200m saw Club mate Jordan Levey run 23.74s to take the bronze medal. The Under 17 Women’s age group saw Ella Sharpe leap 10.40m to win the triple jump with Maddy Strickland taking the bronze medal with 8.96m. Ellie Walker cleared 1.45m to win the gold medal in the High Jump, with Arabella Beattie clearing the same height, but relegated to silver on count back. Alex Richer ran 11m20.7s to take the silver in the 3000m, and another silver was won the 4x100m relay where the team ran 51.52s.

More medals came in the Under 20 Men’s events, where Harry Baker took High Jump gold with a clearance of 1.91m, and Lewis Kirby leapt 6.45m to also win gold. The Pole Vault saw Joe West clear 3.50m to take silver. Amy Fitzpatrick was impressive in winning the 100m Hurdles in the Under 20 Women’s events, running 16.71s. Two medals were picked up in the High Jump, where Tabby Lee cleared 1.53m to take silver and Lucy Milnthorpe took the bronze with 1.50m. The Pole Vault saw Maddie Williams take the bronze medal with a clearance of 1.95m. Catriona Jamieson threw 33.98m in the Javelin to win silver and Emma Garry took bronze medals, in the Shot (8.11m) and the Discus (30.92m). The Senior age group saw Luke Johnson have a good day in the Javelin event where he threw 55.35m to take the gold medal and Gareth Lewis picked up a silver medal in the Triple Jump with a leap of 11.50m.
