Having gained promotion last year the Blue Star Under 13 and Under 15 League team travelled to K2, Crawley for the first of this season’s fixtures. The team put up an excellent performance finishing third of the seven competing Clubs. Scoring 440 points to Guildford’s 499 points and Crawley’s 623 points.

There were several winning performances. Seb Wallace won the A string of the Under 15 80m Hurdles with an impressive run of 12.33s, a new personal best. In the B string Callum Palmer ran 15.1s to take second place in the B race. Wallace then went to win the A string 200m with another personal time of 25.31s, with Joe Fickling taking third place in the B race (27.85s). The 100m B race saw Adam West run 12.44s to win. Adam then went on to run 41.61s to take third place in the A string of the 300m.

The Under 15 Girls events saw Ruby Jerges win the Long Jump with a leap of 5.06m, whilst in the 300m good points were scored, with Cleo Tomlinson running 44.77s to take second place in the A Race and Jessica O’Flaherty also finishing second in the B race in 45.2s. Tomlinson had earlier cleared 1.48m to take second place in the High Jump. Elsewhere Vivienne Rae cleared 2.00m for second place in the Pole Vault and Ruby Walker finished second in the B race of the 200m (28.45s) and third in the A string of the Shot (7.72m).

In the Under 13 Boys events Edward Crossman had a good day, winning the High Jump with a clearance of 1.35m, winning the B race in the 200m with a personal best of 29.37s, and finally taking second place in the A string Long Jump with a leap of 4.24m, where Club mate Craig Harris also finished second in B event with 3.88m.

Sophie Hogton and Macy Lawes teamed up in the Under 13 Girls 70m Hurdles, with Hogton running 12.29s for second in the A race and Lawes running 12.93s to win the B race. The High Jump saw a double first with Emily Hutchinson clearing 1.30m to win the A event and Macy Lawes clearing 1.25m to win the B event. Another double first came in the Javelin where Emily Hutchinson threw 21.70m to win the A string and Hayley Emerson won the B event with a throw 8.02m. The Long Jump saw Sophie Hogton leap 4.01m for second in the A string and Emily Hutchinson take second in the B event with 3.96m.

The Relay events closed the programme and in the 4x100m events both the Under 15 Girls and Under 15 Boys teams taking second places, running 53.41s and 52.94s respectively, whilst the Under 13 Boys team finished 3rd (58.09s) and the Under 13 Girls team 4th (59.70s). This was a promising start for the team and they now travel to Aldershot for the next fixture on 20th May.
