The Blue Star team travelled to Gillingham for the first match in the Youth Development League for the Under 17 and Under 20 age groups. Unfortunately exam commitments meant a depleted team made the trip, but those that went performed well, with the team finishing 5th of the 8 competing Clubs. Alex Richer had a good day winning both the Under 17 Women’s 1500m and 3000m, running 5m02.54s and 10m31.33s respectively, setting new personal bests in both events. Matty Smith equally dominated the Under 17 men’s 3000m, leading from the start he cruised to victory in 9m24.03s. Hari Brogan and Callum Palmer teamed up in both the Long Jump and the High Jump, where they both set new personal bests in the latter event, with Brogan winning the A string Long Jump (5.41m) and taking second in the A string High Jump (1.80m), while Palmer won both B strings, jumping 4.93m in the Long Jump and clearing 1.65m in the High Jump. Sophie Sheldon, having taken second place in the Under 17 Women’s Pole Vault (2.40m) and Triple Jump (8.22m) went on to win the Discus with a throw of 15.65m, whilst Dan Dearden cleared 3.60m to take second place in the Under 17 Men’s Pole Vault., and was part of the 4x100m relay team with Callum Palmer, Adam West and Rocky Betts who were victorious in the Under 17 Men’s race, running 49.42s.
