The Sussex County Cross Country relays took place at Goodwood, with the Blue Stars fielding 12 teams across the age groups. The Under 13 Boys team put up a good performance to finish in fourth place. The team was led off by Ryan Rothe who ran 11m09s for the 2800m lap, coming back in 16th position, he handed over to Charlie Ferris, who had an exceptional run to move the team up to 5th position, running 10m01s, the second overall fastest of the day. Ferris handed over to Reuben Marsden who ran 10m28s to bring the team home in 4th place. The B team of Monty Neve (11m20s), Dominic Barber (11m16s) and James Andrews (11m40s) finished 14th.
The Senior Men’s race run over 4 legs of 4000m saw the A team also finish in 4th place. The first leg saw Bradley Burke bring the team back in 9th position, running 13m08s. He handed over to Jacob Cann who ran 12m53s to move the team up to 5th place, running 12m53s, Josh Barnett maintained that position on leg 3, running 13m28s and Luke Burgess, running 12m59s, anchored the team making up one place and just being edged out of the medals by the team from Crawley. The B team of Ryan Bowyer (16m03s), Jonathon Arnold (14m30s), Luke Triccas (13m40s) and Harry Eaton (13m19s) finished in 14th, whilst the C team of David Maclean (16m34s), Andy Dunstan (15m04s), Simon Hulcoop (19m10s) and James Maclean (18m14s) finished 27th. The Over 60 Men’s team of Ron Shannon (18m22s), Stewart Mackman (19m04s) and Bob Scrivener (22m01s) also finished in fourth place.
The Senior Women’s team was led off by Alex Richer, who had a tremendous run to bring the team back in second place, running 14m48s, which proved to be the fastest lap by an Under 17 Woman. Liz Hutchinson ran 19m14s on the second leg and with Jenny Dunstan running 19m00s on the last leg the team finished 10th. The Under 15 Boys race saw the A team of Tom Clark (10m55s), Sam Richards (9m52s) and Hari Brogan (10m54s) finished 9th, with the B team of Charlie Beckley (11m31s), Jesse Mackarel (10m53s) and Ed Cox (11m46s) finishing 13th. A non scoring team saw Matty Smith run an amazing 9m01s on the first leg to set the fastest leg, with Sophie Morris (11m21s) running on the 2nd leg and Tom Ralph (12m34s) the final leg. In the Under 17 Men’s race the team of Freddie Jupp (16m09s), Ollie Arnold (16m30s) and Joe Abraham (16m31s) finished in 9th.
The day started with two straight races for Under 11s over 2000m. The Girls race saw Emily Oliver come home 11th, running 9.m07s, with Eryn Crowhurst close behind in 16th (9.m25s). The Boys race saw Thomas Wood running 8m56s to finish 23rd.
