The first of this season’s Sussex Under 15 West Division League matches took place at Broadbridge Heath with the Blue Star team finishing in a creditable second place, scoring 210 points, behind winners Crawly (265 points) but ahead of East Grinstead (140 pts), Chichester (115 pts), Worthing (107 pts) and Haywards Heath (42 pts).
There were several good performances from Blue Star athletes. Dan Dearden set a massive new personal best when winning the Pole Vault with a clearance of 3.50m, which ranks him fourth in the country. Seb Wallace, back from injury, recorded a hat trick of victories. He started off with victory in the 80m Hurdles where he ran 11.9s, he then won the High Jump with a personal best leap of 1.73m and finally jumped 6.07m to win the Long Jump. Matt O’Dwyer had a good competition winning the Shot with a personal best throw of 12.45m, and then won the B string in the Long Jump with 5.27m. Hari Brogan won the B string High Jump with a clearance of 1.60m, and there was an commanding run from Matty Smith in the 1500m, where he ran an impressive 4m28.6s to take victory.
In the Girls events, there was a good run from Cleo Tomlinson in the 200m where she was a clear winner, running a new personal best of 26.6s. In the High Jump both Emily Hutchinson and Renee Bassin jumped 1.50m, which secured them second place in the A string and first in the B string respectively. Sophie Morris ran well in the 800m where she finished second running 2m37.0s, and there were further second places achieved in the 75m Hurdles races where Renee Bassin ran 12.3s in the A race and Sophie Hogton ran 12.9s in the B race, both setting new personal bests. In the 4 x 100m relays both the Boys and Girls teams finished second running 49.8s and 53.5s respectively .
