The first of this summer’s Sussex Under 13 League took place at K2, Crawley and saw the Blue Star team finish a close second to host club Crawley, scoring 196 points to the hosts 213 points, but ahead of East Grinstead (103 points), Worthing (92 points), Haywards Heath (86 points) and Chichester (39 points).

This was a good start to the season, with many of the youngsters having their first taste of competition. The High Jump events produced maximum points with Theo Ramage winning the Boys A string event with a clearance of 1.35m, with team mate Tom Easdale cleared 1.20m to win the B event. In the Girls High Jump Kyla Ball jumped 1.30m to win the A string with Lucy Costello winning the B event with 1.25m. Ball had earlier won the B string 75m, running 11.2s. Madeleine Way had an impressive run when winning the 150m in 21.5s, with Holly Hudson running 22.9s to take second place in the B race. Another double first came in the Boys Javelin, where Nicholas Land threw 22.95m to win the A string and Liam Wood threw 18.12m to take the B string. Land had earlier won the B string Shot Put with a throw of 5.12m, with Theo Ramage throwing 6.73m for second place in the A event. The Hurdles events also secured good points. In the Girls 70m Hurdles Lucy Costello took second place in the A race running 13.3s, whilst Alexia Johnstone ran 15.4s to win the B race. The Boys 75m hurdles saw Tristan Bradley take second place in the A race (15.3s), with Seth Bond running 15.7s to secure victory in the B race. In the Boys Long Jump Fraser Williams leapt 3.85m to take second place in the A string, with Tristan Bradley winning the B event also jumping 3.85m.

The 4x100m relay teams put up good performances with both teams finishing second. The Boys team of Tristan Bradley, Jack Hunt, Seth Bond and William Gosden running 59.6s and the Girls team of Holly Hudson, Lucy Costello, Alexia Johnstone and Madeleine Way running 59.7s. this was a good start for the team, with the next match at Broadbridge Heath on 14th June.untitled (45 of 58)
