Tanbridge School was the venue for the first of this winter’s Sussex Sportshall league events and both the Boys and Girls events produced exciting climaxes. In the Boys competition Crawley ran out comfortable winners, scoring 225 points, but there was just 1 point separating the Blue Stars scoring 193 points to Brighton’s 192 points to take second and third places, with Haywards Heath (137 points) fourth and Chichester (32 points) in fifth. The Girls competition had an even closer finish, with the final result not decided until the final few events. Crawley again triumphed, scoring 215 points, to Brighton’s 208 points and the Blue Stars 207 points, with Haywards Heath fourth (84 points) and Chichester fifth (77 points).

The Under 15 Boys events saw a double win in the 4 lap race where Seb Wallace ran 45.5s to win the A string and Ed Crossman won the B string in 48.3s. Wallace teamed up with Matt O’Dwyer in the Shot event and again both were victorious, with Wallace winning the A event with a throw of 11.50m and O’Dwyer throwing 11.10m to win the B string. Wallace also went on to win the Vertical Jump with an impressive leap of 70cm and in the Standing Long Jump, Ed Crossman took third spot in the A string with 2.26m, with O’Dwyer leaping the same distance to win the B string.
There was a double win in the Under 13 Boys 4 lap races where Harvey Rout ran 47.9s to win the A string and team mate William Gosden taking the B race in 50.0s. Rout had earlier won the 2 lap race in 22.2s. The Under 11 Speed Bounce saw Tom Hays score 50 for second place in the A string with Lex Cornish also finishing second in the B event with a score of 47.

There was a treble win for Cleo Tomlinson in the Under 15 Girls events, where she won the 4 lap race in 47.4s and then jumped 2.36m to win the Standing Long Jump, where Renee Bassin took second place in the B event with a leap of 2.06m, and finished with a leap of 63cm to win the Vertical Jump. The Shot event saw second places with Ruby Walker throwing 8.28m in the AS string and Alina Hillicks 7.46m in the B event. Another treble winner came in the Under 13 Girls events
