The Blue Stars collected a good haul of medals at the recent Sussex Indoor Championships held at the David Weir Leisure Centre, Carshalton. 5 Gold medals, 8 silver and 7 bronze medals were achieved across the age groups.
Harry Baker cleared a personal best 2.06m to win the Under 20 Men High Jump and with it set a new Championship best performance. In the Under 15 Boys age group Seb Wallace achieved two Championship best performances in winning Gold medals in the 60m Hurdles in 9.22m and the Long Jump with a leap of 6.02m. In the 60m Hurdles Callum Palmer took bronze in 11.60s, with Matt O’Dwyer taking bronze in the Long Jump with 5.12m. Earlier O’Dwyer had taken another bronze medal in the 60m where he ran 7.90s and Palmer took a bronze in the High Jump with a clearance of 1.45m. Meanwhile there was a Gold medal gained by Dan Dearden in the Under 15 Boys Pole Vault, where he cleared 3.10m to win the Surrey title, held in conjunction with the Sussex Championships.
The Senior Men’s Pole Vault saw a one, two for the Club with Calum Neil clearing 3.80m to take the Gold medal and Joe West taking silver with 3.70m. Also in the Senior Men’s events Simon Brown threw 11.53m to take the silver medal in the Shot Putt, and Dominic Tomlinson leapt 5.18m to win the bronze medal in the Long Jump. Alex Wadley gained two silver medals in the Under 20 Men’s Long Jump and Triple Jump leaping a personal best 6.43m in the former and 12.27m in the latter. The Under 17 men’s events saw another silver medal won by Leo Walker in the Shot event where he threw 11.66m, and Adam West ran 7.58s in the 60m to gain the bronze medal.
In the Under 15 Girls events Cleo Tomlinson took a silver medal in the Long Jump with a leap of 4.79m and ran 8.23s in the final of the 60m for another silver medal. Renee Bassin cleared 1.40m to take the silver medal in the High Jump, whilst Holly Hudson took a bronze medal in the Under 13 Girls Long Jump with 3.84m.
