The latest Sussex Cross Country league fixture took place at Lancing, where the strong winds meant tough conditions for the athletes. The Blue Stars were out in force with the best individual result coming in the Under 13 Girls race, where Amelia Wright came an excellent 3rd in a field of just under 50, running 12.m09s for the 3km course, just six seconds behind the winner. This was a great run in only her third race for the Club. She was well supported by Izzy Hayes who also had a good run to come home in 6th place in 12m23s, and with Eve Clyne in 38th (14m52s), the team finished in fifth position.
The Under 17 Men’s team again put up a good performance, with Josh Eeles, continuing his fine run of form this winter, taking 4th place, running 17m59s for the 5km lap. Connor Dearden had a good run in 7th (18m16s) and with Tom Mackman 18th (20m45s) and Luke Triccas 20th (21m06s), the team, although just edged into second place on the day, still head the table with one race left.
The Under 15 Girls race run over 4km saw Evie Clarke put up a good performance finishing in fourth place in 16m45s and Annabel Morton, in her first race for the Club, taking an excellent 10th position in 17m27s, with Abby Lamboll 22nd (19m34s) and Hannah Joels 25th (20m17s) the team took fourth place on the day.
The Under 13 Boys race saw Sam Clarke lead the team home in 18th place running 12m16s, with Charlie Beckley 32nd (12m54s) and Samuel Nunn 41st (15m02s), the team finished 8th. The B team saw William Trickett 42nd (15m05s) and Tom Ralph 45th (16m10s), whilst in the Under 15 Boys race Luke Burgess was the first Blue Star finisher in 13th place (17m49s) with Bradley Burke 17th (18m12s), Josh Barnett 20th (18m30s) and Jacob Cann 22nd (18m35s) the team took 5th place.
The Senior Women’s race, with a field of 120, saw Elspeth Turner lead the team home in 12th place, running 20m14s for the 5km race, and being the first Over 50 woman to finish. The team took 3rd place, with Romy van der Veen 37th (21m42s) and Abby Lebus 43rd (22m04s). Daisy Burchfield finished 55th (22m44s) and Lily Hardwick 74th (24m43s). The Senior Men’s field of almost 200 runners ran over 8km, with Jonathan Arnold the first Blue Star finisher in 55th place, running 34m37s. Jack Milnthorpe finished 110th (38m31s) with Chris Lee 149th (43m04s), Stewart Mackman and Guy Milnthorpe had a great personal battle, with Mackman taking 157th place (44m31s) and Milnthorpe just behind in 160th place (44m46s).
The day started with race over 2km for Under 11s, with Ed Cox finishing 23rd (6m54s), Max Nunn 32nd (7m07s) and Josuah Eves 39th (7m18s). The latter two having their first ever runs.
